To watch the latest impeachment hearing Dec. 9, you’d think the idea that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election has long been a GOP article of faith, rather than a debunked conspiracy theory. As with so many other conspiracy theories favored by President Trump, it was initially shunned by his allies, but then it became necessary to embrace in order to defend him. Eventually, they just decided not to fight it anymore. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is even lending legitimacy to the argument.
