President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy, at a meeting with U.S. Senator Robert Portman, has discussed the situation in Donbas and steps to achieve progress in a peaceful settlement.

“The issue that was raised during the meeting, the situation in Donbas and the necessary steps to achieve progress in a peaceful settlement, above all, a cease-fire and an exchange of hostages,” the press service of the Ukrainian president said.

Speaking about the extraordinary parliamentary elections in Ukraine, Zelenskiy explained: “If this parliament, which does not work, would continue, we would form a government in December. We cannot wait. We have two wars – a war with Russia and a war with corruption within the country, which is a threat, first of all, for the economy of Ukraine.”

In addition, the president pointed to the need for further pressure on Russia in order to ensure the proper implementation of the Minsk agreements.
