Advisor to Ukraine’s President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy, ex-Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk has met with U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry to discuss cooperation in the gas sector and nuclear energy, Zelenskiy’s press service said on Friday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the EU-U.S. Energy Council B2B energy forum in Brussels on May 2, it said. The meeting was also attended by U.S. Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland, representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy, Zelensky’s advisor Ruslan Riaboshapka, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Belgium, Representative of Ukraine to the European Union and European Atomic Energy Community Mykola Tochytskyi.

“The United States’ role in diversifying energy supplies is important to Ukraine and Europe in general. This reduces political risks and lowers the cost of energy for consumers,” Danyliuk said.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed investment in boosting natural gas production in Ukraine, possible ways of supplying U.S. liquefied natural gas, as well as reforming the gas market in Ukraine, including NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy.

In addition, the participants in the meeting discussed cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, namely improving the reliability and efficiency of existing nuclear power units, as well as development and construction of small modular reactors.
