You're reading: Zelensky: Any deals at Normandy summit to be discussed with society

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says that a Normandy summit will be aimed at renewing dialogue on the settlement of the Donbas crisis, and any deals to be reached will then be discussed with Ukrainian society.

“You know that we have been moving towards the revival of the Normandy format for a long time. Since 2016, there haven’t been any such meetings, it’s been 3.5 years already – let’s count how many people have died since then. Therefore, the Normandy format is aimed at renewing the dialogue, which can bring us closer to the end of war and the return of our territories. And the most important thing is the return of our prisoners of war,” he said in a video interview titled “Frankly with the President,” while driving a Tesla car. The video was posted by the Office of the President on social media on Nov. 7.

“And what is the further action plan? What will happen then? In which cities, towns or sites will the disengagement [of troops and weapons] happen? What will be the format for the next exchange of our people, what are the deadlines? What will be the format for local elections? All these questions need to be asked and addressed at the Normandy summit. But first articulate them, and then go to our society and offer available solutions for debate. There will be no secrets from the society on this matter because this topic is very sensitive,” Zelensky said.
