You're reading: Zelensky calls for increased salaries for doctors in September

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky demands that doctors receive higher salaries this month, according to the website of the head of state on Monday.

“It’s already the end of the month, and health workers should receive salaries in a few days, and, according to the data I received, less than a quarter of submitted applications for additional payments to doctors have been signed. The question remains open about providing more than 80% of beds for COVID-19 patients with oxygen. All these issues must be resolved,” Zelensky said during a conference call with the Prime Minister, members of the government and representatives of law enforcement agencies.

The President drew attention to the fact that now very few hospitals have entered into agreements with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) to receive additional payments, and the Ministry of Health should keep this process under control.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the NHSU started making payments to institutions under signed agreements to ensure additional payments to medical workers from September 25.

“Over the next two days, 500 healthcare institutions will receive funds. Other institutions will receive them after they sign contracts by the end of the week. It is important to note that more than 200 institutions have not yet submitted proposals to conclude an agreement with the NHSU, which makes it impossible to timely pay additional payments to medical workers. Control over payments is personally carried out by the Minister of Health,” the head of government reported.
