You're reading: Zelensky: Dialogue on Donbas can be held only on basis of Minsk Agreements

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky notes that the Minsk Agreements is currently the only document on the basis of which a dialogue can be held to end the war and resolve the situation in Donbas.

“The Minsk Agreements have the present, and there is Ukraine in this present, with the problems that we had, with the war in Donbas and this were not us who started it, who brought it to our territory. The Minsk Agreements in the present form are the only thing that whether you follow them or you don’t … this is a document, this is an object according to which you can meet at the level of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk or at the level of continuing significant steps based on the Minsk Accords, at meetings in the Normandy format,” the president said.

“Is there something else to meet around? Of course, we are thinking about it. Are we developing other options if this option does not work? Yes,” Zelensky added.

The president of Ukraine said there are complaints against “that side, the side of occupation forces supported by Russia” within implementation of the Minsk Agreements.

“Of course, we started a dialogue, we started talking about something. This is important. There has been no Normandy format for three years. We agreed. We returned the sailors before the Normandy format, returned the ships, Russia agreed on this. Very important, that means we’re talking about something,” he said.
