You're reading: Zelensky, Sandu discuss enhanced trade, economic cooperation

During a working visit to Georgia to participate in the Batumi International Conference, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky discussed steps to intensify trade and economic cooperation with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, the presidential press service said.

“The sides discussed the priority steps to intensify trade and economic cooperation, identifying cooperation in the energy sector and the implementation of joint infrastructure projects as a key area of ​​economic interaction between the two states,” the office said.

According to Zelensky, “the successful implementation of such bilateral and multilateral projects should be an important step towards enhancing the diversification and energy independence of both countries.”

Special attention was also paid to the problems of developing the transport and transit potential of Ukraine and Moldova. The sides agreed on the need to accelerate the implementation of the flagship project in this area, namely, the construction of a border bridge over the Dniester River in the area of ​​the settlements of Yampil and Koseuts.

In addition, the head of state congratulated Sandu on the victory of the pro-European democratic forces in the parliamentary elections in Moldova and wished his Moldovan counterpart success in forming an effective government.

He also briefed Sandu on the main tasks and modalities of the Crimean Platform, confirming his invitation to the President of Moldova to take part in the summit, as well as in the solemn events on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
