You're reading: Zelensky-Trump meeting possible in late summer

Members of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s team will visit Washington, D.C., this week to prepare a meeting between Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump jointly with the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Valery Chaly told the Voice of America.

“We are working on it. Later this week, representatives of President Zelensky will visit [Washington, D.C.], and we will be working together on the date and content of the visit. I believe it will happen in the coming months,” Chaly said.

“The visit should be fully prepared by August or September,” he said.

Chaly denied the recent assumptions made in Ukraine that the United States was waiting, while Zelensky “was delaying the visit because he had no time to do it.”

“Neither President Zelensky, nor Ukraine, nor the United States needs a mere image of [a meeting between] the two presidents. They will find a way to create chemistry between themselves. They have already created that chemistry in their phone calls. The content is a different question,” Chaly said.

In his words, the Ukrainian embassy is actively at work to prepare the content of the bilateral summit.
