You're reading: Zerkal: US can help in dialogue between Ukraine and Hungary to lift blocking on NATO site

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine for European Integration Olena Zerkal is convinced that without mediation, in particular, of the U.S., in the dialogue with Hungary, it will be difficult for Ukraine to achieve the lifting of the blockade on the NATO site.

“In this respect, the U.S. assistance is essential, especially as regards dialogue with the Hungarians. We are unlikely to be able to lift the blockade without mediation,” she said on Channel 5 on June 13.

The deputy minister confirmed that a joint meeting of foreign ministers and ministers of education of Ukraine and Hungary with the Hungarian community will be held on June 22.

“A compromise has been reached on the fact that on June 22 there will be a joint meeting of the Ministers of Education and Foreign Affairs, which will be devoted to the consideration of how to further promote relations and what we do to improve relations so that there is not problems at various international venues,” the deputy minister said.

As reported, Ukrainian and Hungarian Foreign Ministers Pavlo Klimkin and Peter Szijjarto will meet with the Hungarian community of Transcarpathia in Berehove (Zakarpattia region) on June 22.

“The Ukrainian and Hungarian sides determined the meeting in Berehove on June 22,” a well-informed diplomat has told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, Klimkin, Szijjarto, Ukrainian Education and Science Minister Lilia Hrynevych, Minister of Human Capacities of Hungary Miklos Kasler and Head of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Association (KMKSZ) Laszlo Brenzovics will take part in consultations.

The agenda of the meeting will include the implementation of the law on education concerning the language article of the document.
