On March 24, Joint Forces Operation Commander Serhiy Nayev said representatives of local government bodies unilaterally opened the Zolote border crossing checkpoint in Luhansk region.

He said as of 2:30 p.m. employees of Ukraine’s State Border let more than fifty people and nearly one hundred and fifty vehicles into the “grey zone” and out of the “grey zone,” the border service’s press department said.

“As of 2:30 p.m., border guards allowed 56 citizens and 142 vehicles into the ‘grey zone’ and the same number out,” it said.

Meanwhile, Russia-occupation forces refused to open a checkpoint on its side for entry and exit, demonstrating neglect of moral principles and international law, the border service said.

The service said border guards of the JFO’s Lychychansk border service detachment based in Zolote has been monitoring citizens living in the “gray zone” daily since 2016 and has been ready since March 31, 2016, to register and let pass persons and vehicles to the temporarily occupied part of Luhansk region.

To ensure quick and comfortable crossing of the Zolote checkpoint by citizens in vehicles, six passport control modules were installed in the automotive area, where 12 workplaces were equipped for border clearance procedures. In addition, for the registration of pedestrians, two more modules were installed, where four border patrols for document verification serve.

“Also, to ensure an adequate level of safety of traveling citizens and representatives of control bodies, who will be at the checkpoint, reliable shelters against possible attacks have been built and properly equipped,” the border service said.
