MOSCOW – Moldova’s new president, who is visiting Russia on his first trip abroad, voiced hope on Dec. 17 for rebuilding “strategic” ties with Moscow and hinted that the ex-Soviet nation could eventually shelve a trade pact with the European Union.

President Igor Dodon, who was elected in November, has pledged to restore the trade and political relations with Moscow that cooled after Moldova signed a trade association agreement with the EU.
