German support for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is weakening, with the next coalition government expected to harden Berlin’s stance towards the Russian-backed project.
Support has been dwindling since the Social Democrats, previously the junior partner in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative-led coalition, went into opposition after a heavy defeat in September’s Bundestag elections.
