You're reading: Lukashenko suggests Minsk become platform for East-West dialogue

MINSK – Minsk is ready to be a platform for dialogue similar to the Helsinki Process, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

“The events unfolding in the world and on this continent are yet another sign attesting to the relevance of the Belarusian initiative on arranging a new large-scale dialogue between the East and the West, similar to the Helsinki Process,” Lukashenko said in an annual address to the people of Belarus and the National Assembly in Minsk on Friday.

“I’d like to reiterate that, if there is a need and if the world is interested, Minsk is ready any time to become a platform for dialogue aimed at comprehending new rules of the world order,” the president said.

The new U.S. administration is again trying to dictate its will to the planet, Lukashenko said. “The shape of the new U.S. administration’s foreign policy is becoming increasingly clear,” he said.

The recent operations in Syria and the rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula are a source of concern about the possibility of Washington’s new attempts to dictate its will to the rest of the world, Lukashenko said. “I sincerely hope that common sense of all geopolitical actors will prevail this time around,” he said.
