Moldovan Deputy Minister of Economy Valeriu Triboi was detained on March 31  on charges of corruption, the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) told Interfax.

“Valeriu Triboi has been detained by CNA operatives for 72 hours. Currently searches are carried out in the office rooms of several Economy Ministry officials, as well as other premises. All this is linked to a corruption case being investigated by the CNA operatives,” CNA spokeswoman Angela Starinski said.

Moldovan media wrote earlier that Triboi was involved in an alienation of a residential complex in the town of Ialoveni via dubious schemes. A former administrator of the Anevas Cuant company, Vasile Chiţiniuc, told journalists that Triboi had attempted a raid by illegally taking hold of the large residential complex. He said that the illegal seizure also involved the mother and the wife of the deputy minister, as well as responsible local council and court officials.

It was reported that anti-corruption officers detained Minister of Agriculture Eduard Grama, ex-parliamentarians and other officials on March 15. Also, 15 judges and three bailiffs are facing charges of involvement in a scheme to steal money from the banking system and money laundering.
