MINSK – The National Bank of Belarus has decided to allow individuals to open current accounts with foreign banks and transfer money to such accounts (except deposits) from March 1, the NBB press service said.

The decision, and other measures to liberalize the foreign exchange legislation, were approved by a government resolution of Dec. 19.

However, to open a deposit abroad and transfer money to a foreign deposit account, individual-residents will still be required to obtain permission from the National Bank.

The same requirement will remain in place for foreign currency operations involving the movement of capital (purchase of shares, real estate).
