You're reading: POLITICO: Poland’s PiS wins election, but its grip on power is weakened

Poland’s nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party won Sunday’s parliamentary election, taking 43.76 percent of the vote, according to a count of 99.4 percent of the votes cast on Oct. 14.

However, the party appears to have lost control of the upper house, the senate, and is looking like taking 49 seats to 51 for the opposition; in most districts, opposition parties united around a single candidate.
