Georgia’s biggest economic partners are the European Union and the United States, according to the findings of a poll conducted in June for the American International Republican Institute (IRI).

The respondents’ answers were divided as follows: EU- 44%, U.S. 44%, Ukraine 23%, Turkey 22%, Azerbaijan 19 percent, Russia 17%, China 13%, Armenia 4%, and Iran 2%. A further 2% considered none of these countries to be Georgia’s economic partner and 5% refused to answer the question.

Asked which of these countries posed the biggest economic threat to Georgia (respondents were could choose several options), the answers were as follows: Russia 71%, Turkey 12%, China 4%, U.S. 3%, Azerbaijan 3%, Armenia 3%, Iran 2%, the EU less than 1%, Ukraine less than 1%. 3% said none of these countries posed an economic threat to Georgia and 15% refused to answer the question.

The IRI poll was conducted nationwide among 1,500 Georgians aged 18 and over by direct interviewing of a random sample on June 15 – 30.
