You're reading: RFE/RL: Amnesty reports thousands killed in mass hangings at Syrian military jail

The Syrian government has executed as many as 13,000 people, many of them civilian opposition supporters, in mass hangings at a military jail near Damascus, Amnesty International says.

In a new report issued on Feb. 7, the London-based group documented executions between September 2011 and December 2015, adding that they probably are still being carried out and amount to war crimes.
