U.S. President Donald J. Trump wrote on Twitter on Nov. 29 that he will not meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

“Based on the fact that the ships and sailors have not been returned to Ukraine from Russia, I have decided it would be best for all parties concerned to cancel my previously scheduled meeting….,” Trump tweeted.

The president then commented on his own tweet: “….in Argentina with President Vladimir Putin. I look forward to a meaningful Summit again as soon as this situation is resolved!”

On Nov. 25, Russian naval forces attacked and seized three Ukrainian naval vessels in the Black Sea, injuring at least three Ukrainian sailors, capturing 24, and jailing them on false charges. The Kremlin also decided to stop all commercial shipping through the Kerch Strait that connects the Azov and Black seas.

The meeting between Trump and Putin was scheduled to take place during the G20 Summit which will take place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1.

The meeting between Trump and Putin was postponed for the second time in the past month. Their head-to-head meeting that was scheduled on Nov. 8 in Paris, during the commemorative ceremony dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, was also canceled. Dmitry Peskov, Russian president’s press-secretary, said that Putin will arrive to Buenos Aires as planned and that Russia is still expecting to have the meeting, according TASS news agency.  “We are still preparing for the meeting (with Trump),” Peskov said.
