JERUSALEM – The body of Shimon Peres was laid to rest on a hill on the outskirts of Jerusalem on Sept. 30, his untiring pursuit of peace between Arabs and Jews evident in the scores of world leaders who gathered to pay their respects to the Israeli statesman, including U.S. President Barack Obama and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

“Israel grieves for him. The world grieves for him… that so many leaders came from around the world to bid farewell to Shimon is a testament to his optimism, his quest for peace,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the distinguished assembly of mourners at Mount Herzl, Israel’s national cemetery.
