Donald John Trump will be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States at noon on Jan. 20, on a day that will feature smaller crowds and more subdued ceremony than previous inaugurations – but still usher in a transformative shift in the country’s leadership.
Just before 11 a.m. on Jan. 20, Trump and his wife Melania accompanied President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama in a motorcade from the White House to the U.S. Capitol. They were driven down an empty Pennsylvania Avenue, in a city where anti-Trump protesters clashed with police at security checkpoints outside the closed-off security zone.
