By now, there’s not really much point in Ukraine announcing the investigation into former vice president Joe Biden that President Trump sought in his July 25 conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. What that announcement would have achieved Trump has already gotten: a discussion about Biden’s son’s work for a Ukrainian energy company that has generated the sort of reality-vs.-rhetoric tug-of-war that has become so familiar to Americans in recent years. When a voter in Iowa confronted Biden with an inaccurate representation of what happened, it was clear that the Ukrainian announcement was no longer really needed.
