The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), in collaboration with intelligence from the nation’s Security Services (SBU) launched a missile strike on a Russian missile forces unit in the cross-border region of Bryansk, in the early morning hours of Thursday, AFU sources reported.
The exact extent of the damage to Russian missile stockpiles has yet to be reported.
The strike comes about four days after Ukraine executed one of its most devastating attacks on Russian military hardware in the history of the more than three-year-old David-vs-Goliath conflict.
An AFU statement said only that a unit of Russia’s 26th Missile Brigade was attempting to launch a strike on a Ukrainian settlements, likely in the capital region, from the area of Klintsy in Bryansk region, the report reads.
One Russian missile launcher was destroyed, and two more were most likely damaged, the report said.
According to the AFU General Staff, the mission “destroyed the 26th missile brigade of the Russian military, from the area of the town of Klintsy, Bryansk Oblast of the Russian Federation, [which] intended to launch a strike on one of the Ukrainian settlements in Ymovirno, in Kyiv [region].”
“The result of the beneficial work of the Armed Forces and the Security Service of Ukraine was successfully destroyed. One Russian missile launcher detonated, and two more were seriously damaged.”
On Sunday, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) executed one of its most ambitious and coordinated attacks to date – a covert drone operation codenamed “Spiderweb,” which struck four strategic Russian airfields: Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo.
The results were devastating for Moscow’s air power. According to the SBU, 41 aircraft were hit, including rare and high-value assets like the Tu-95, Tu-22M3, and even the A-50 airborne early warning plane.
