Ukrainian Drones Crash Into Russian Oil Plant, Target Military-Linked Factory Near Moscow

Ukraine’s campaign of targeting Russia’s warfighting infrastructure continues with strikes on installations in the south and near Moscow that are linked to military logistics.

Ukrainian drones struck deep inside Russia overnight, hitting an oil refinery in the south and triggering explosions near a military-linked chemical plant outside Moscow, Russian officials and media reports said Monday, July 7.

In the Krasnodar region, debris from a downed Ukrainian drone crashed onto the grounds of the Ilsky oil refinery, according to local authorities. No injuries or major damage were reported.

Further north, loud explosions shook the city of Krasnozavodsk in the Moscow region, Russian and Ukrainian Telegram channels reported.

The city hosts a chemical plant known to supply the Russian military. The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine confirmed the facility was targeted.

“They produce explosives, gunpowder, and components for ammunition and missile systems there. It’s a key link in the supply chain for Russian artillery shells, rocket launchers, and ballistic missiles,” said Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, in a statement.

Russian officials have not confirmed the attack.

Drone debris also disrupted train traffic in Russia’s Voronezh region after landing on railway tracks, regional governor Alexander Gusev said. Several trains were delayed but no one was hurt.

In Lipetsk, falling debris damaged the roof of a private home and a car. A drone also struck an unfinished apartment building, though no injuries were reported, according to regional governor Igor Artamonov.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defenses intercepted or destroyed 91 Ukrainian drones overnight across 14 regions.

There was no immediate comment from Ukraine’s military, which rarely confirms cross-border drone strikes but has stepped up such attacks in recent months, targeting oil infrastructure, defense plants, and other strategic sites inside Russia.
