Man Detonates Grenade During Document Check at Train Station in Zhytomyr, 4 Dead

A man detonated a grenade during a document check at Ovruch railway station in Zhytomyr region, killing four people, including a border guard, and injuring ten others.

A man detonated a grenade on the platform of the railway station in Ovruch, Zhytomyr region, during a document check, killing four people and injuring ten others.

“The incident occurred on Oct. 24 at around 10:50 a.m. on the platform of the Ovruch station in the Korosten district,” the National Police reported on Telegram.

Investigative and operational teams, explosives experts, and forensic specialists were working at the scene at the time of publication.

According to preliminary information, officers of the State Border Guard Service were checking passengers’ documents on a diesel train when one of them pulled out an explosive device, which detonated moments later.

 

The perpetrator, a 23-year-old resident of Kharkiv, was killed in the explosion. Three women from the Korosten district, aged 29, 58, and 82, also died, including one border guard.

As of 2 p.m., ten people were reported injured, among them two border guards.

According to law enforcement, the bomber had previously been detained for attempting to illegally cross Ukraine’s western border. Urgent investigative actions are underway.

Border guards confirmed that the man died in an ambulance.
