Two Injured in Shooting at Kremenchuk Draft Office

After officers asked a conscript whether he had any illegal items on his person, he drew a handgun and fired several rounds, according to the recruitment center in Kremenchuk.

Two soldiers working at a draft office in the city of Kremenchuk, Poltava region, were shot by a conscript as they performed their duties, the regional recruitment center said on Thursday.

According to a statement posted to Facebook, police were escorting a conscript to the recruitment center to fill out documents and undergo a mandatory inspection when, in response to a question about whether he had any illegal items on his person, he pulled out a handgun.

The conscript proceeded to let off several rounds, injuring two soldiers in the lower leg.

Both soldiers were hospitalized but their lives are not in danger, the center said.

The incident occurred at around 4pm.The shooter was detained by police and an investigation is ongoing, according to the statement.

On Feb. 1, a Ukrainian soldier from the Poltava Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) was shot while escorting conscripts to a training center, according to the Land Forces of Ukraine and National Police.

Also in February, an explosion struck a military recruitment center in the western city of Rivne, killing one person and wounding six, while no air alert was active, according to regional authorities.
