Energy traders, state-owned companies, and major retail chains dominate Ukraine’s economy, according to 2025 end-of-year statements published by 424,800 Ukrainian companies on YouControl. State-owned enterprises make half of the top-10 companies driving Ukraine’s economy.
Ukraine’s private trader of electricity, gas, and coal, D.Trading, part of DTEK Group, owned by Ukraine’s richest man Rinat Akhmetov, earned Hr.292.4 billion ($6.6 billion) last year, growing by 33.5% compared to 2024.
The state-operated nuclear giant Energoatom holds a second place among Ukraine’s most profitable companies in Youcontrol’s list. The holding reported Hr.254.7 billion ($5.8 billion) in revenues, growing by 23% according to 2024. It remains unclear whether a $100 million embezzlement scandal at the state-owned company, involving Zelensky’s close associate, Timur Mindich, has affected the financial results.
Ukraine’s largest grocery store chain ATB, owned by Ukraine’s Dnipro-born entrepreneur Hennadiy Butkevych, holds third place. The company earned Hr.247.3 billion ($5.6 billion), which is 18.4% more than in 2024.
State-owned gas supply company Naftogaz Trading reported Hr.130.3 billion ($2.9 billion) in revenue, a 4.3% increase, which allowed it to take fourth place. Its parent company, the state energy giant Naftogaz, followed closely despite a 21.1% revenue decline to Hr.124.6 billion ($2.8 billion) and took fifth place.
DL Solution, a major national distributor of consumer goods and electronics, took sixth place in the ranking with a surge of nearly 30%, reaching Hr.114.1 billion ($2.6 billion) in revenue.
The state-owned power grid operator Ukrenergo took seventh place with revenue about Hr.107.7 billion ($2.4 billion), a 6.5% increase. Private-owned grocery giant Silpo-Food, part of one of Ukraine’s largest commercial and industrial groups Fozzy Group, founded by Volodymyr Kostelman, ranks eighth in terms of net sales revenue according to the results of 2025 with Hr.106.1 billion ($2.4 billion), growing by 14%.
Kernel-Trade, the trading arm of the sunflower oil exporter Kernel, owned by Andriy Verevsky, ranked ninth on the list, as the company earned Hr.105.9 billion ($2.4 billion). Ukrnafta, the country’s primary oil-producing company, is last on the list. It reported Hr.99.4 billion ($2.2 billion) in revenue, reflecting a slight 5.5% decrease compared to the previous year.
Previously, the state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia was also in the ranking, but after updating the data, it moved to 11th place and reported Hr.90 billion ($2 billion), the decline of the indicator was 13,5%.
