On Friday, April 17, Volodymyr Zelensky is hosting the state visit of Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf who is in Ukraine for the first time since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
The king arrived in Lviv on Friday, according to svt.se.
King Carl XVI Gustaf will thus become the first monarch in the world to visit the country since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
The King’s schedule includes a wreath-laying ceremony at a memorial ceremony together with Zelensky. The agenda also includes visits to schools and hospitals to learn about Ukrainian experiences from the war.
Sweden’s Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard will also be present during the visit.
“Swedish support for Ukraine is special. It has broad political support, but also comes from the entire society and the hearts of the people,” she stated in a press release, and continued:
“Today’s visit together with His Majesty the King marks Ukraine’s first visit by a Monarch since the outbreak of war and is further proof of Sweden’s broad and unwavering support. I look forward to visiting Ukraine again to discuss the state of the war, the humanitarian situation and the conditions for a just and lasting peace.”
According to Flightradar24 the delegation flew from Sweden to Rzeszow, Poland, before proceeding onward overland to Ukraine.
