Russian drone strikes on Saturday morning, Aug. 8, targeted a passenger train in the northeastern Sumy region and wounded at least four civilians in the southern city of Kherson.
In the Sumy region, a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck the locomotive of the Sumy-Kyiv passenger train.
According to Ukrainian railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia, a monitoring group detected the incoming threat, allowing the train and locomotive crews to evacuate passengers to a safe distance before impact.
No casualties were reported in the train strike, though one railcar sustained damage. Railway workers are currently working to minimize schedule disruptions on the line.
Meanwhile, Russian forces conducted a relentless series of daytime drone attacks across Kherson.
Kherson City Military Administration head Yaroslav Shanko reported that at least four drone strikes targeted the intersection of Stritenska and Komkova streets early Saturday, injuring two people. Authorities urged residents to avoid the area due to high drone activity.
Later in the morning, another drone struck the city’s Korabelny district at approximately 11:15 a.m. local time, inflicting blast injuries on a 63-year-old man who was subsequently hospitalized.
A separate drone strike in the Korabelny district wounded a 56-year-old woman. She was hospitalized in moderate condition with a concussion, explosive trauma, and a ruptured eardrum.
Russian attack on Kherson medical facility
The Saturday daytime attacks follow a targeted drone strike on a Kherson medical facility on Friday evening, Aug. 7.
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that the Friday strike injured four medical workers and a police officer, prompting authorities to launch a war crimes investigation.
The strikes also come on the heels of a deadly overnight ballistic missile and drone barrage against Kyiv region.
The overnight bombardments killed one person in Kyiv and killed three people, including a three-year-old boy, in the nearby Brovary district, where a residential home was destroyed.
