Bomb Stockpile Destroyed, Warplanes Damaged as Ukraine Strikes Russian Airfield

The Borisoglebsk airfield is a key base for Russian fighter jets and bombers, including Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM warplanes, according to a statement from Ukraine’s General Staff.

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian military airfield in the Voronezh region on Saturday, destroying a warehouse with guided bombs and damaging at least one aircraft, Ukraine’s military said.

The attack targeted the Borisoglebsk airfield, a key base for Russian fighter jets and bombers, including Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM warplanes, according to a statement from Ukraine’s General Staff.

Preliminary information indicates that the strike destroyed a stockpile of guided aerial bombs used by Russian forces to attack Ukraine and damaged a combat training aircraft. Other aircraft may have also been hit, but officials say the full damage is still being assessed.

“This operation is part of our efforts to weaken the enemy’s ability to strike Ukrainian cities and force Russia to stop its aggression,” the General Staff said.

Additionally, NASA satellites recorded a fire at the Borisoglebsk military airfield.

This is not the first time the airfield has come under attack. In August 2024, Ukrainian drones destroyed hangars and damaged equipment at the site. In October, strikes targeted fuel depots, ammunition warehouses, and Russian Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft.

On the night of July 5, the Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting and destroying 94 Ukrainian drones over several Russian regions.

Around 3:20 a.m., Saratov region Governor Roman Busargin said the Russian Defense Ministry warned of a drone threat. He later reported that residential homes in Engels and Saratov were damaged, allegedly from the drone attacks.

Meanwhile, the Telegram channel Astra, citing locals, reported a series of explosions near the Engels military airfield.

Videos circulated on social media showed a fire near a production facility in Cheboksary. Later, the head of Chuvashia confirmed an attack on the “VNIIR Progress” company in Cheboksary, which was also targeted by Ukrainian forces in early June. He added that a warehouse in the city was damaged.

The plant produces electronic equipment and “Kometa” antennas, which are used by the Russian armed forces, particularly to protect drones from Ukrainian electronic warfare systems.
