Russia’s Drone Barrage Hits Homes in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Disrupts Rail Service

Russia launched 154 drones overnight, damaging civilian residential neighborhoods and infrastructure, and forcing rail disruptions in the Odesa region.

Russia launched an overnight drone barrage, hitting homes in the Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions, damaging infrastructure, and forcing rail disruptions in the Odesa region.

Russian forces attacked a residential area in the city of Sumy early on Sept. 26, damaging civilian homes, according to the head of the City Military Administration, Serhiy Kryvosheyenko.

“At about 4.20 a.m. [0120 UTC], the enemy carried out what was likely a KAB (guided aerial bomb) strike on a residential area in the Stetskiy district,” Kryvosheyenko reported on Telegram.

Residential buildings were damaged, but the number and extent of the destruction have not yet been specified. The administration also warned of possible disruptions to electricity and gas supplies. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.

On Sept. 25, Sumy also came under a massive Russian attack.

According to the State Emergency Service (DSNS), drones struck multiple areas of the regional center, with hits recorded on the grounds of a private enterprise, a municipal facility, and in residential neighborhoods.

“Despite the threat of repeated strikes, rescuers managed to extinguish all sources of fire,” the report read.

Russia also launched attacks on several communities in the Dnipropetrovsk region early Sept. 26, damaging homes and energy facilities. The head of the region, Serhiy Lysak, said attacks hit the Nikopol district, as well as Pokrovska and Marhanets communities.

Three private homes, an outbuilding, and a greenhouse were damaged. A power line and a gas pipeline were also hit.

“Fortunately, no people were injured. The sky defenders had enough work again tonight. They downed six enemy drones over the region,” Lysak said.

Meanwhile, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that rail services in the Odesa region will undergo temporary changes due to damage to the energy infrastructure. Several suburban routes will be canceled, and one train will change direction.

According to the Air Force, Russia launched 154 attack drones of various types, including Shaheds, from 6 p.m. (1500 UTC) on Sept. 25 until the morning of Sept. 26.

Drones were launched from Bryansk, Orel, and Millerovo regions of Russia, around 80 of them Shaheds.

Ukraine’s air defenses responded with aviation, missile units, electronic warfare, and mobile fire groups. By 7.30 a.m. (0430 UTC), 128 drones had been shot down or suppressed across the north, south, east, and center of the country.

At least 26 drones hit nine locations, while falling debris damaged buildings in one area.

The Air Force warned that new groups of Russian drones were still entering Ukrainian airspace from the north and urged citizens to observe safety measures.
