Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday he met with former foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba to discuss Ukraine’s political and information environment, underscoring the importance of maintaining a strong Ukrainian voice internationally.
“We discussed the situation around Ukraine – both political and informational,” Zelensky said in a post on Monday, Jan. 5.
“It is important that the Ukrainian view of events in the world is represented and that it is strong.”
Zelensky said Kuleba will continue working as part of Ukraine’s broader team and that the two agreed to define areas for further cooperation.
“I am glad that Dmytro is part of Ukraine’s team,” the president wrote.
Zelensky did not specify what formal role, if any, Kuleba may take going forward, but said further coordination would be determined. He concluded his post with the national salute: “Glory to Ukraine.”
Kuleba served as Ukraine’s foreign minister from March 2020 until 2024, becoming one of the country’s most recognizable diplomats during Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Appointed by President Zelensky in 2020 at age 43, Kuleba was Ukraine’s youngest foreign minister and a key figure in the government.
The son of an ambassador, the bespectacled career diplomat is one of the most talented public speakers in Ukrainian politics.
Kuleba became a familiar face in the West after the Russian full-scale invasion in 2022, championing Kyiv’s position and appealing for weapons.
He submitted his resignation on Sept. 4, 2024, in the framework of a broader government reshuffle in Ukraine, as several high-ranking officials stepped down earlier this week.
