Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck targets related to Russia’s 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade in Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Crimea on Monday, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
In a Feb. 23 Telegram post, the General Staff said targets elsewhere in Ukraine’s Russian-occupied territories were also hit.
The strikes were part of what the General Staff described as ongoing efforts to reduce Russia’s combat capabilities by targeting military infrastructure and supply chains.
Strike in Crimea
According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces hit an area where personnel and equipment belonging to a missile division of Russia’s 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade were concentrated in Russian-occupied Crimea.
The Russian unit, which is part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, was equipped with a Bastion coastal missile system.
The Bastion system, known in Russia as K-300P Bastion-P, is a mobile coastal defense system armed with P-800 Oniks (Yakhont) supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles. The missile has a reported range of up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) and can travel at speeds of up to 3,087 kilometers per hour (1,918 mph).
Originally designed to target naval vessels, Russia has used Bastion systems to strike ground targets in Ukraine during the full-scale war.
The General Staff said hits were confirmed. The extent of Russian casualties and losses is still being established.
Logistics and command targets
Near Nyzhnia Krynka, a rural settlement in Russian-occupied Donetsk, Ukrainian forces struck an ammunition depot belonging to Russia’s “South” grouping of troops, according to the General Staff.
Another strike targeted a logistics warehouse near the village of Velyka Novosilka, also located in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region.
In addition, Ukrainian forces hit a drone command post of a Russian airborne assault regiment near Pokrovka, in an area of Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv region under Russian control.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue efforts to degrade Russian military infrastructure and disrupt the enemy’s ability to conduct offensive operations, the General Staff said.
