5 Killed, 2 Children Injured in Widespread Russian Drone Assault

Russia launched 94 drones overnight, striking Kryvyi Rih and several other regions. Five people were killed across three regions, and multiple homes and businesses were damaged.

Russia launched a massive drone attack on Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) early Monday morning, March 2, damaging infrastructure and sparking fires across several regions.

“The enemy struck Kryvyi Rih. An enterprise in the city was damaged. Several fires broke out there. Firefighters are eliminating the consequences. Initially, no casualties were reported,” the regional military administration (OVA) said in a statement at 6:00 a.m.

Earlier, Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the city’s Defense Council, reported that Russia was carrying out a large-scale strike on Kryvyi Rih using Shahed drones.

According to the OVA, Russian forces also attacked Apostolove, damaging a transport enterprise. In the Synelnykove district, the Pokrovska community was hit, destroying two private houses and damaging four more.

“Unfortunately, a 55-year-old man died. His body was recovered by rescuers from under the rubble of one of the destroyed houses,” the report said.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, two children were injured in a separate attack, regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported.

“The Russians hit Komyshuvakha with guided aerial bombs. The house was destroyed, and the blast wave and debris damaged neighboring buildings,” he wrote on Telegram.

Two girls, aged 9 and 15, were injured and received necessary medical assistance, he added.

Later, the State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported that a woman born in 1937 was killed in a Russian attack in the Chernihiv region.

Overnight, a Russian UAV struck a residential building in one of the settlements of the Koryukivskyi district. A fire broke out, covering about 150 square meters, but rescuers quickly extinguished the blaze.

Chernihiv OVA head Vyacheslav Chaus wrote on Telegram:

“A ‘Geran’ hit a house in a village of the Snovska community. A fire broke out. An elderly woman died as a result of this attack. The house was destroyed.”

A Russian drone also targeted a heat supply facility in the Semenivska community.

According to Ukraine’s Air Force, from 6:30 p.m. on March 1, Russia launched 94 attack drones, including Shahed, Gerbera and Italmas types, around 70 of them Shaheds.

Ukraine’s aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups repelled the attack.

As of 8:00 a.m., air defenses had shot down or suppressed 84 drones in the north, south and east of the country. Ten strike UAVs hit four locations, while debris from downed drones fell in two additional areas, according to preliminary data.

Moreover, Russian forces shelled Kramatorsk and Druzhkivka in the Donetsk region, killing three people and injuring three others.

Kramatorsk City Military Administration head Oleksandr Honcharenko said: “At 8:14 a.m., Russian troops struck the city. According to preliminary information, three people were killed.”

Later, the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office reported that at 5 a.m., Russian forces targeted Druzhkivka with an FPV drone. Three 72-year-old civilians were injured in the street and diagnosed with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds.

Three hours later, Russian troops shelled a civilian infrastructure facility in Kramatorsk with artillery. Two women and a man sustained life-threatening injuries.

The head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, reported at 9:30 a.m. that a residential building was struck in one of the city’s districts during the morning attack.

“At this time, there is no information about casualties,” the statement said.
