Estonian-Ukrainian Defense Tech Firm Raises $400,000 From Swedish Investors For Unmanned Systems

The investment from Swedish firms Front Ventures and Hede Capital will accelerate the production of the SHADOX drone, designed for indoor and trench warfare.

Black Forest Systems (BFS), an Estonian-Ukrainian defense tech company specializing in autonomous unmanned systems, robotic platforms, and high-performance electronics, has secured $400,000 in investment from two Swedish investment firms, the company announced on Thursday.

In a statement, BFS said that the investment from Front Ventures and Hede Capital Partners AB will “accelerate the development and industrialization of our infantry-first unmanned systems, designed based on the requests of Special Operation Forces and International Legion.”

“Our mission is to shift complexity from the operator to the technology itself,” said Oleksandr Davydenko, CEO of BFS, in the company’s statement

The company builds vertically integrated platforms, he added, combining proprietary electronics, secure communications, and control software to ensure high performance in contested electronic warfare environments.

SHADOX

The company’s flagship product, SHADOX, is a compact reconnaissance complex designed for rapid deployment. According to the BFS website, its protected-propeller design is specifically built for operations inside buildings and trenches, allowing soldiers with minimal training to operate the drone effectively without the need for specialized external pilots.

BFS previously received support from Double Tap Investments Ltd, which enabled the creation of its core technology stack and the first SHADOX prototype.
