A man opened fire inside a residential building in Lviv on Thursday, April 23, marking at least the third reported shooting incident in Ukraine in less than a week.
According to the police, residents made an emergency call reporting gunshots heard at an apartment building at around 9 a.m. on Hrinchenka Street.
Law enforcement officers said a 34-year-old resident of one of the apartments had fired several shots inside the premises.
Police said the suspect, who has mental health disorders, used a recreational Flobert-type revolver, which he threw out of a window upon seeing the arrival of police officers.
No injuries were reported.
The weapon was seized and sent for forensic examination, while the man was taken to a specialized medical facility. Authorities are currently determining the legal classification of the incident.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi urged residents to rely on official information and avoid panic following reports of gunfire.
On Saturday, April 18, a shooting in Kyiv left seven people dead and at least 14 injured.
A gunman opened fire in the city’s Holosiivskyi district before barricading himself inside a supermarket with hostages. After about 40 minutes of negotiations, special forces stormed the building and killed the attacker.
Authorities said the suspect, a 58-year-old man, carried out the attack following a domestic dispute. The incident sparked public outrage and scrutiny of police response after footage showed patrol officers leaving the scene while civilians, including an injured child, remained under threat.
On Tuesday, April 21, local media reported another shooting, reportedly involving the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and corrupt military and police personnel, where the latter two were said to have operated an extortion scheme that ultimately resulted in a chase and gunfight during an SBU operation to crack down on the scheme.
