Another man injured in the April 18 shooting in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district has died in hospital, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported.

The victim had been in extremely serious condition, but doctors were unable to save him, bringing the total death toll to seven.

Another seven people injured in the attack remain hospitalized in the capital, including one child. Four adults are in intensive care, while two others are being treated in the trauma department. All are receiving necessary medical assistance.

Authorities have officially classified the attack as a terrorist act, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor General’s Office.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacker – a 58-year-old Russian-born man who had long lived in the Donetsk region – killed four people on the street and one hostage inside a Velmart supermarket before being killed by KORD special forces. Another victim later died in the hospital.

Among the 14 that have been reported injured is a 12-year-old boy – the son of two of the deceased – who is being treated for a gunshot wound.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said the attacker used a legally registered firearm and had set fire to an apartment prior to the assault. Investigators are examining multiple possible motives, including the suspect’s communications.

“The state must act firmly and resolutely… there is no room for compromise,” Kravchenko said.

Sybiha: Putin Failed to Drive Diplomats Out of Kyiv as NATO’s 32 Allies Visit Ukraine

Sybiha said the full North Atlantic Council visited Kyiv on Thursday despite Russia’s recent threats and escalating missile attacks. Discussions focused on securing additional Patriot air defense systems, expanding European funding for US weapons purchases, and preparing concrete Ukraine-related outcomes for the NATO summit in Ankara next month.

Following the operation, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko ordered an internal review of police actions during the incident. The findings will be submitted to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).

He stressed that the principle “to serve and protect” must be upheld through professional conduct, especially in life-threatening situations.

The SBU has opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 258 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code – a terrorist act resulting in loss of life.
