Russian Drone Hits Public Transport in Kherson, Killing Two

A morning drone strike on a minibus killed a municipal worker and a woman, while 142 drones were intercepted nationwide during another massive overnight aerial assault.

Russian forces attacked a public minibus in Kherson with a drone early Saturday morning, May 2, killing two people and wounding seven others.

The strike occurred around 7:00 a.m. in the city’s Dniprovskyi district. According to the Kherson City Military Administration, the fatalities included a male municipal employee and a woman whose identity is currently being established.

At first, seven other passengers – six men and one woman – sustained blast injuries and were hospitalized. Four of the wounded are also municipal workers.

Later, the number of casualties from the Russian drone attack on a minibus in the Dnipro district of Kherson has risen to ten

This attack follows a broader wave of violence against the Kherson community over the past 24 hours, during which artillery and drone strikes killed one person and injured 10 others. Damage was reported to private homes, high-rise buildings, educational and medical facilities, and critical infrastructure.

Nationwide, the Ukrainian Air Force reported a massive overnight assault involving 163 drones of various types, including Shaheds, Gerberas, and Italmas. Air defense units successfully intercepted or suppressed 142 of the aircraft across northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.

However, 17 drones struck 12 different locations, and falling debris was recorded at two sites.

These strikes targeted several regions. In Mykolaiv, drones targeted energy infrastructure, though no casualties were reported. Port infrastructure in the Odesa region was also attacked, though air defenses intercepted most drones with minimal destruction.

A drone strike in the Shevchenkivskyi district in Kharkiv injured at least one person.

The ongoing escalation follows Friday’s attacks on Odesa and Kharkiv, where drones equipped with artificial intelligence targeted residential buildings and gas stations.

President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that these persistent strikes on civilian and energy targets demonstrate the urgent need for increased international pressure and synchronized sanctions against Russia.
