Russia Orders Troops to Behead Dead Ukrainian Troops in Intercepted Call

Ukraine’s General Staff released an intercepted Russian military communication allegedly capturing a commander ordering troops to decapitate two fallen Ukrainian soldiers. Ukrainian officials described the incident as a deliberate war crime and said the Russian unit involved had been preliminarily identified.

An intercepted Russian military communication released by Ukraine’s General Staff allegedly captures a commander ordering troops to decapitate two fallen Ukrainian soldiers after combat in the Huliaipole sector.

According to the General Staff, servicemembers of Ukraine’s 225th Separate Assault Regiment were ambushed by a Russian infiltration group on May 12. Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed during the engagement.

The intercept, published on Wednesday, May 13, allegedly records a Russian commander instructing subordinates to mutilate the bodies of the dead soldiers.

“Specifically, the radio intercept captures the commander ordering the decapitation of two heads ‘for confirmation’ and their placement in a visible location at the edge of the field,” the General Staff said.

According to the statement, the subordinate expressed readiness to carry out the order.

The authenticity of the recording could not be independently verified.

Ukraine’s military described the alleged actions as a serious violation of the laws and customs of war.

“By desecrating the bodies of fallen servicemembers, the occupiers have once again demonstrated their sadistic nature and their deliberate, performative brutality,” the General Staff said.

According to Ukrainian officials, the Russian unit involved has been preliminarily identified. The commander allegedly issuing the order had previously been linked to the mistreatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russian forces of war crimes during the full-scale invasion, including executions of prisoners of war, torture, and the desecration of bodies.

Kyiv Post regularly reports on intercepted Russian communications. Some of the most shocking examples include claims of cannibalism, Russian soldiers driving tanks into the countryside in search of vodka, and the chaotic aftermath of the Russian military’s loss of Starlink access:
