At least four people were injured in Kyiv early Saturday, Aug. 8, after Russian forces launched waves of attack drones followed by ballistic missiles at the Ukrainian capital, local authorities reported.
The Kyiv City Military Administration confirmed the casualty toll, noting that emergency services are actively mitigating the aftermath of the strikes.
In the southern Holosiivskyi district, falling debris ignited massive fires across 1,000 square meters (10,763 square feet), engulfing garages in two separate locations alongside a non-residential building used for storing cardboard. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the fires occurred in a non-residential zone.
The State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported the blazes have been localized and liquidation efforts are ongoing.
In the northern Obolonskyi district, a fire broke out at an enterprise facility, with initial reports indicating fuel tanks had ignited. The DSNS stated this fire has since been extinguished.
The strikes also caused localized transport disruptions. The Kyiv City State Administration announced the closure of Pokilska Street and the rerouting of municipal bus services bypassing the Mykhailo Spivak square.
A week of deadly strikes on Ukraine
The Saturday assault follows a deadly attack that struck the Brovary district northeast of the capital.
The Brovary strike killed three people, including a child, and injured three others. Falling debris in that attack damaged a private home, outbuildings, and vehicles.
Russia has significantly intensified its bombardment of the capital region this week, frequently combining drone swarms with high-speed ballistic missiles that are considerably harder to intercept.
On Wednesday, a massive coordinated attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region killed 17 people and wounded 44. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Wednesday strikes primarily targeted civilian infrastructure, including warehouses, a brewery, and commercial logistics facilities not linked to the war effort.
The widespread assault damaged or destroyed major commercial hubs around the capital, further disrupting businesses that supply Ukrainians with food, parcels, and other essential goods.
