Russia Bombards Odesa With Missiles, Zaporizhzhia With Drones - Fires Erupt

Explosions and fires broke out in Odesa and Zaporizhzhia following Russian air and drone strikes, but according to preliminary information, there were no casualties.

Russia launched a combined air attack on the Odesa region on the evening of April 18, targeting civilian infrastructure and causing fires.

According to the State Emergency Service (DSNS) in the Odesa region, Russian shelling destroyed farms.

“The fires that broke out as a result of the strikes were extinguished by both emergency workers and the local fire brigade,” the agency reported.

Preliminary information indicates there were no casualties.

The Russian military used both ballistic and cruise missiles in the attack. Prior to the strike, a Russian missile carrier was spotted in the Black Sea, and missile movements were tracked toward the town of Tatarbunary.

Explosions were also heard in Odesa early on the morning of April 19. Social media users reported air defense activity in the city.

That same morning, Russia launched a drone strike on the Zaporizhzhia region using Shahed-type UAVs. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, wrote on Telegram:

“The Russians attacked the regional center with Shaheds. A fire broke out. Emergency services are working on the scene.”

He later clarified that the fire occurred at a transport facility and that firefighters continued to deal with the aftermath.

Another strike hit the village of Mahdalynivka in the Zaporizhia district, damaging homes, a garage, and a car due to the blast wave and debris. No injuries were reported.
