Russia attacked several Ukrainian cities early on Thursday morning, Jan. 29, resulting in deaths, destruction of buildings, and fires in Vilnyansk in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as damage to an infrastructure facility in Odesa.
Russian forces targeted the private residential sector in Vilnyansk with drones. The strike caused fires and destroyed buildings, according to the head of the regional military administration (OVA), Ivan Fedorov.
As per Fedorov, three people were killed.
The State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported that the victims included a 62-year-old man and 2 women aged 26 and 50. A 57-year-old man was also injured.
“Seven private houses were damaged, and one was destroyed. Rescuers extinguished fires in a 100-square-meter residential building and a gas pipe,” the statement said.
The DSNS later confirmed that the number of injured had risen to three people. Emergency and rescue operations have now been completed.
Odesa was also hit by drones. According to the head of the local military administration, Serhiy Lysak, an infrastructure facility in the city was damaged.
“All city services and public transport are operating normally. Municipal workers continue to deal with the aftermath of bad weather and previous enemy attacks,” the statement said.
Russian drones also struck Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region – the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky. As a result of the attack, a one-story building and two cars were damaged.
According to the DSNS, in addition to the attack on Kryvyi Rih, Russia struck three other districts in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Two men, aged 43 and 34, were injured in the Mykolaiv community of the Synelnyky district. A house of culture and a car caught fire.
Cars also caught fire in the Bohdaniv community of the Pavlohrad district. A coffee shop building caught fire in the Pishchansk community of the Samar district.
According to the Air Force, starting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 28, Russia attacked Ukraine with 105 attack UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types, as well as other drones. About 70 of them were Shahed-type drones.
The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“As of 8:30 a.m., air defenses had shot down or suppressed 84 enemy UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types and other drones, in the north, south, center, and east of the country,” the report said.
At the same time, 18 attack drones struck targets at 7 locations.
