Russian Missile Hits US Business in Kharkiv, Zelensky Warns of Shift to Logistics Strikes

Drone strikes on ordinary residential buildings in cities are continuing, Zelensky said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia did not strike energy facilities overnight but that Ukraine is seeing a shift toward attacks on logistics infrastructure.

Zelensky reported he held a special coordination meeting on the situation and restoration efforts.

“Last night, there were no strikes on energy facilities, but yesterday afternoon, there were strikes on energy infrastructure in several regions. We are now recording the reorientation of the Russian army to strikes on logistics,” he said on Telegram.

He added that Russian drone strikes on residential buildings in cities continue.

“A ballistic missile was also used against the Kharkiv region – warehouses of ordinary civilian production were damaged, and this is an American company,” Zelensky said.

Earlier, the State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported that Russian forces struck a civilian warehouse in the suburbs of Kharkiv, causing a large-scale fire covering more than 5,000 square meters (53,820 square feet). Building structures suffered significant damage. Initially, no casualties were reported. More than 80 rescuers and 20 pieces of equipment responded to the incident.

In Zaporizhzhia, Shahed drones hit one of the city’s districts, Zelensky confirmed. Russian First Person View (FPV) drones also continue near-constant strikes on Kherson, cities in the Dnipro region, and especially Nikopol.

The president highlighted the difficult conditions in the border areas of Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.

“There was a report on the Donetsk region. We separately considered the situation in the Cherkasy region: much more needs to be done to guarantee people basic needs, especially for houses with electric heating,” Zelensky said.

Additional resources are being deployed to Kyiv, where 378 multi-story buildings were without heating as of Friday morning, Jan. 30.

Zelensky also said he had tasked the defense minister and the air force commander with strengthening drone protection along the Kherson-Zaporizhzhia line.

“Last year there were relevant decisions of the General Staff, which have only been partially implemented today. I instructed to conduct a corresponding inspection and present response measures,” he said.

The Kremlin said Friday that US President Donald Trump personally asked Vladimir Putin to halt strikes on Kyiv until Feb. 1, though it remains unclear whether Putin agreed.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Trump made a personal request to pause attacks on Kyiv for a week to create conditions for negotiations. Trump earlier told a White House cabinet meeting that he had asked Putin to stop strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for a week and said Putin agreed.

Reports of a possible pause surfaced Thursday, when a pro-Kremlin war blogger claimed Russia had temporarily halted strikes on Kyiv and energy targets. Ukrainian bloggers also mentioned a parallel pause on strikes against Russian energy facilities.

Zelensky said there is no ceasefire or formal agreement with Russia. Ukraine is ready to refrain from energy strikes if Moscow does the same.

“This is not an agreement. It is an opportunity,” he said, adding that Ukraine would respond in a mirror-like way and that everything depends on Russia.

He also said talks in Abu Dhabi addressed “the most sensitive issues,” including separate Ukraine-US discussions, while Washington urged both sides to show restraint on long-range strikes to allow room for diplomacy.
