Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) operators from the Asgard battalion of the 412th Nemesis Brigade destroyed two Russian Tor-M2 air defense systems in a single night.
“In one key direction, pilots of the Asgard battalion of the 412th Nemesis Brigade hit two enemy Tor-M2 systems worth about $50 million [3.9 billion rubles] in total,” the USF said in a Telegram statement.
According to the report, Ukrainian forces used medium-range strike drones (50-300+ km) to hit the targets at a considerable distance from the line of contact.
The USF added that since the beginning of the year, operators of the 412th Nemesis Brigade have destroyed 13 Russian air defense systems and radar stations.
Drone footage, which Kyiv Post could not independently verify, shows the destruction of the two Tor-M2 systems.
The Tor-M2 (NATO: SA-15 “Gauntlet”) is a Russian-made short-range mobile air defense system developed by Almaz-Antey. It is designed to intercept low to medium altitude-flying aerial targets, including aircraft, helicopters, drones, and guided missiles.
First unveiled at the 2007 Moscow Air Show, the Tor-M2 is an upgraded version of the Tor-M1, featuring improved radar capabilities, enhanced digital fire control, and the ability to fire while on the move.
The system can engage up to four targets simultaneously and carries up to 16 9M338 missiles, which offer greater accuracy and extended range.
A wheeled variant, the Tor-M2K, is also in service, and the system is designed to operate in all weather conditions. In 2020, Russia announced modifications to the Tor-M2 aimed at protecting oil and gas infrastructure.
