A Russian ballistic missile strike in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 22, killed two people and injured five others, local authorities reported.
Kyiv Regional State Administration Head Tymur Tkachenko stated that the full extent of the injuries and the condition of the victims are still being clarified, though all are receiving necessary medical assistance.
According to Tkachenko, the strike damaged a warehouse, a car parking lot, multiple vehicles, a private household, and a gas station.
Emergency services and specialists are currently working at the scene to manage the aftermath of the attack.
In a separate attack on Saturday, Russian forces launched seven strikes on the Zaporizhzhia district, resulting in multiple casualties.
Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Head Ivan Fedorov reported that the strikes killed three people and injured 15 others, including a child. The attacks also caused damage to several private houses in the area.
Overnight barrage targets Odesa and Kyiv
The afternoon strike on Boryspil follows a major barrage targeting the Kyiv and Odesa regions.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces launched 217 drones and multiple ballistic and aviation missiles starting late Friday evening.
Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 182 drones, three aviation missiles, and six loitering munitions, while direct hits were recorded at 41 locations.
The barrage coincided with a separate ballistic missile strike on a railway enterprise in Kyiv’s Darnytsia district early Saturday morning. That strike killed a foreman for the state rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia and ignited a warehouse fire.
In the Odesa region, overnight strikes injured one person and caused significant damage to transport, industrial, energy, and residential infrastructure. The Rozdilna railway station sustained extensive damage, alongside a five-story residential building, an industrial enterprise, and a sports facility.
The strikes on the Odesa region resulted in power and water supply interruptions across several settlements, prompting emergency repair operations.
Despite the fatalities and damage to the railway infrastructure in both the Kyiv and Odesa regions, Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that overall railway operations and train schedules remained unaffected.
