Ukraine’s Military Intelligence (HUR) published a new intercepted call on Tuesday, Nov. 26, revealing Russian troops in the Donetsk sector refusing to carry out combat tasks as frontline pressure and casualties rise.
In the recording, a Russian commander reports to his superior that personnel under his authority have abandoned forward positions and are moving to the rear.
His superior immediately explodes with profanities.
“Where the f**k are they going back, where the f**k are they going? I’ll f**king switch off their radios remotely right now, goddamn f**k it – and they’ll f**king march their asses back with full force,” the senior officer shouts in Russian.
Judging by the furious tone of the “conversation,” the unit has failed to advance for several days. The senior commander threatens to brand the entire group as deserters.
“And then, f**k, as deserters – f**king d**kheads – forward, f**king move! Yesterday they couldn’t take a damn postcard, and now they can’t even get through the damn treeline,” he rants.
The intercept adds to a growing series of reports by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) showing collapsing morale among Russian troops pushed into so-called “meat assaults” with minimal training and near-certain casualties.
HUR reminded Russian soldiers that those unwilling to die in pointless frontal attacks still have a way out.
The agency again promoted Ukraine’s “I Want to Live” surrender hotline — a Telegram bot offering instructions for Russian servicemen who choose to lay down their arms and save their lives.
Kyiv’s “I Want to Live” initiative provides instructions and guarantees for Russian soldiers seeking to surrender safely to Ukrainian forces.
Recent intercepted calls also revealed worsening conditions in the Russian military. One soldier complained of a lack of basic supplies, which led to troops dying on supply runs, while another admitted that various personnel – including cooks – were being used as infantry during frontal assaults.
Earlier last year, Kyiv Post also interviewed “Maria,” a professional eavesdropper, who said the “insane” things heard in intercepted calls are, in fact, real despite their often outrageous nature.
“They all are real even though they might seem insane. Sometimes I can’t believe the words I’m hearing myself, but we have what we have,” she said.
