The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (CMU) has appointed former Minister of Community and Territory Development Oleksiy Chernyshev the new head of state-owned energy company Naftogaz.

The CMU accepted the resignation of  Naftogaz chairman of the board Yuriy Vitrenko on Tuesday, Nov. 1, as stated in a press statement issued by Naftogaz.

“By its decision of Nov. 1, 2022, the CMU  approved the resignation of the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Yuriy Vitrenko. Yuriy Vitrenko will continue to hold the position of head of the national company until Nov. 3, 2022, inclusive.”

According to the procedure, Vitrenko should have been dismissed by the supervisory board of Naftogaz, but the CMU, which currently performs the functions of the supervisory board, did so.

Vitrenko was appointed on April 28, 2021 after the dismissal of the previous head, Andriy Kobolyev. In early September 2022, Reuters reported that Vitrenko was ready to resign from his post it this would help to convince investors to support the proposal to restructure the company’s huge debt.
