Two suspects have been arrested and charged with high treason, Ukraine’s State Security Service, the SBU, has confirmed.

Posting on Telegram on June 21, the SBU said: “A complex and multi-layered operation identified a senior Minister’s official and a departmental head at Ukraine’s Chamber of Commerce, as Russian FSB agents.”

According to the announcement, two men were detained and charged over allegations of feeding Russia with information about Ukrainian defenses, border fortifications, and personal details about enforcement officials.

Over 12,500 criminal proceedings have been instigated in Ukraine against suspected spies and Russian collaborators in the past three months alone.

Deputy Prime Minister (and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine) Iryna Vereshchuk, said

“We know everything you do, all your agreements and everything you try to hide. You won’t be able to do this! I personally promise you that. For everything that is happening on the territory of Ukraine now –it’s not just 15 years that await you in accordance with Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.”

Sentences for those found guilty of treason currently range from 15 years to life imprisonment.
