More than 11,000 Russian military personnel have been killed as of the morning of March 7, Ukraine’s military said on Facebook.
Nearly 300 Russian tanks, 1,000 combat armored vehicles and 117 artillery have been destroyed since Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of the neighboring country on Feb. 24.
In addition, 46 Russian aircraft and 68 helicopters were eliminated, the Armed Forces of Ukraine added.
“Data are being updated. The calculation is complicated by the high intensity of hostilities,” the social media post said.
Early in the full-scale attack, Russia only released casualty figures once saying nearly 500 soldiers had been killed.
Ukraine isn’t disclosing its casualty figures.
As hostilities escalated late last month, more than 1.5 million people have fled the country, the UN’s Refugee Agency said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has called Russia a “terrorist state” and U.S. President Joe Biden referred to Putin as a “dictator” in his first State of the Union address.
Kyiv blames occupying Russian forces of indiscriminately targeting civilian areas and infrastructure, which is turning into a humanitarian catastrophe. Russia also has refused to allow humanitarian corridors to be created at besieged cities.
As a result of the relentless bombardment, Zelensky has urged the West to enforce a no-fly zone to prevent further damage to infrastructure and deaths of civilians.
