On Tuesday, June 21, the UN Security Council will consider the issue of incitement to violence as one of the causes of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

This was reported to Ukrinform by the UN Security Council Secretariat.

The item on the agenda of the meeting, which will be held at the UN headquarters in New York, is worded as follows: “Incitement to violence leading to atrocity crimes.”

Members of the Security Council and representatives of the invited countries are expected to deliver statements about the causes of the war, including the role that propaganda and hate speech in Russia have played in unleashing it. It was Albania, which holds the presidency of the Security Council in June, that initiated consideration of the issue.

Special Advisor of the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide Alice Wairimu Nderitu will address the meeting.
The event will kick off at around 17:00 Kyiv time. According to the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, the head of the mission, Sergiy Kyslytsya, is also scheduled to speak at the meeting.
